Youth Art Exhibition FAQs
Do I have to do a painting or a drawing?
No, the only requirement is that the artwork can be displayed. This could also be photography, sculpture, ceramics, mixed medium art, writing, etc.
Why do an “Intent to Submit” form?
Artwork takes time to complete and the end of the school year can be busy. By having students fill out an intent to submit form, it allows the museum to get the right number of t-shirts made and offers youth accountability and time to work on their artwork.
What will you do with my email address?
Alecia will be sending out biweekly reminders to work on artwork. In addition, it’ll make it easier for students and parents to ask for guidance or questions.
What is the Silent Auction Art Sale?
The silent auction art sale is both a fundraiser for the museum and an opportunity for the youth submitting artwork to make money. Any proceeds from the sale of the art will be split 40-60 between museum (40%) and youth artist (60%). The museum’s portion will go towards renovations in the museum.
Do I have to sell my artwork in the silent auction?
No, you can choose to opt out of selling your artwork. Only pieces whose creators have consented will be offered up for sale. If you choose not to sell your artwork, you will need to pick it up from the museum on July 25th.
Can I submit more than one piece?
No, students are only allowed to submit one piece for exhibition. Your art will be displayed for hundreds of people who visit the museum and we want you to put time and thought into it.
What size should my art work be?
Art work can be in any size, though max size should be limited to 24” x 24” since display space is limited.
Do I need to be a USD 408 student to submit artwork for the exhibit?
No. You don’t need to be a USD 408 student to submit artwork. All students ages 5-18 are welcome to submit artwork for the exhibit and sale! Forms can also be picked up/turned in at the Marion City Library and Marion City Office.
